Housing Options Advisor - North Northamptonshire
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and customer-focused Housing Options Advisor to join a busy Housing Needs service.
In this frontline role, you will provide high-quality housing advice, homelessness prevention, and casework support to residents at risk of homelessness. You will work in line with the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and relevant safeguarding legislation, helping applicants secure sustainable housing solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a housing professional with strong case management skills, a sound understanding of homelessness legislation, and a passion for supporting vulnerable residents.
Key Responsibilities
Assess homelessness applications and determine statutory duties
Deliver prevention and relief casework in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act
Create and manage Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs)
Provide advice on tenancy sustainment, private rented options, and homelessness prevention
Liaise with landlords, housing associations, support providers, and internal departments
Manage cases involving domestic abuse, mental health, safeguarding, and complex needs
Work with temporary accommodation and move-on teams to secure suitable housing solutions
Maintain accurate case notes and legal decisions on housing systems
Attend multi-agency meetings and case conferences where required
Ensure all work meets legal, policy, and performance standards
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Previous experience in a Housing Options, Homelessness Prevention, or Housing Advice role
Strong knowledge of:
Housing Act 1996 Part VII
Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
Suitability and intentionality decisions
Domestic abuse and safeguarding legislation
Experience managing complex housing cases
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Strong decision-writing and case-recording ability
Ability to work in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
Experience using housing management systems such as Locata, Jigsaw, Civica, or NEC
