Job Opportunity: Senior Practitioner - Mental Health Team | Harrow Council

Harrow Council is currently seeking an experienced Senior Practitioner to join their Mental Health Team on a locum basis. This is a key leadership role within the service, ideal for someone with in-depth knowledge of mental health legislation and experience managing complex reviews and discharges.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Practitioner in the Mental Health Team, your responsibilities will include:

Providing professional leadership within the team and overseeing the delivery of statutory Mental Health Reviews

Managing and coordinating a team of reviewing officers within the mental health service

Applying extensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Section 117 aftercare, ensuring legal compliance and high-quality practice

Leading on discharge planning, risk management, and inter-agency coordination

Supporting the development and implementation of best practice across the service

Requirements:

Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England (SWE) registration

Proven experience at Senior Practitioner or management level within adult mental health services

Extensive understanding of the MHA, Section 117, and statutory review processes

Ability to lead a team, manage performance, and deliver effective multi-agency working

Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills
