Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) - Sutton Council
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join Sutton Council's Adult Mental Health Social Care Team.
? Please note: This role includes 1 or 2 days per week on the AMHP rota. The remaining days will involve working within the Mental Health Social Care Team, fulfilling statutory responsibilities under the Care Act. Only candidates aware and accepting of this split role should be submitted.
Role Overview:
This key role involves assessing individuals in mental health crisis and determining the appropriate application of the Mental Health Act 1983, while also contributing to broader social care responsibilities within the team. You'll be instrumental in safeguarding rights, delivering critical interventions, and supporting crisis resolution with dignity and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
? AMHP Duties:
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for individuals in crisis.
Apply relevant sections of the Mental Health Act 1983 when detention is necessary.
Ensure full compliance with legal procedures during assessments and detentions.
Coordinate hospital admissions and liaise with psychiatric facilities.
Advocate for and protect the rights of individuals throughout the process.
? Collaboration and Crisis Support:
Work closely with psychiatrists, social workers, police, and ambulance services.
Lead multi-agency meetings and contribute to joint care planning.
Provide immediate support and develop stabilisation care plans for those in crisis.
Deliver accurate, legally compliant documentation and reports, including court submissions when necessary.
? Statutory Care Act Work (Non-AMHP Days):
Complete Care Act assessments, reviews, and support plans.
Liaise with community mental health teams, housing, and brokerage.
Undertake safeguarding work and Mental Capacity Act assessments.
Support Section 117 responsibilities and Court of Protection applications.
