Temporary Accommodation Visiting Officer - Lambeth
Job Purpose
To visit or call, where a visit is not possible, households in temporary accommodation, assessing their move on housing needs and their most likely route to being re-housed in settled accommodation, including in Social Housing and the Private Rented Sector.
To take accurate and complete records of the households current composition and housing needs so colleagues in the Move on team can source and match the households to suitable settled accommodation.
To set expectations about the most likely route into settled accommodation, what action the household can take to move out of temporary accommodation of their own accord.
To signpost households to relevant support e.g. for benefits or debt advice, to ensure they are in the best position to sustain their settled accommodation.
This role is key in ensuring households are able to move on from temporary accommodation, reducing the average stay length and the number of households in temporary accommodation.
Key Accountabilities
To be the first point of contact between households in temporary accommodation and the Move on Team. In doing so you will demonstrate excelled customer engagement skills, quickly building trust and rapport with residents.
To use analytics provided to the team to prioritise households to visit, based on those most likely to be ready to move into settled accommodation.
To visit or call, where a visit is not possible, temporary accommodation households to undertake occupancy checks, identify checks, update the housing needs assessment, including an affordability assessment, and identify the most likely route out of temporary accommodation and into settled accommodation.
To use fraud indicators to verify occupancy and other matters relating to the homeless application.
To liaise with other Council departments and external bodies as required, including Social Care, GP's, fraud etc. to build up an accurate picture of the households readiness to move on from temporary accommodation and their housing needs.
To identify wider needs within the households that could impact on the households readiness to move on from temporary accommodation, signposting to relevant organisations and services and making internal referrals where relevant.
To guide users to update their housing register application where their household composition and/or needs have changed. To also verify where there are adult dependents where the property is their main residence, and they can be included in the housing register application.
To manage a schedule of visits and maintain accurate and complete records, meeting individual and service performance targets.
Work closely with colleagues in the move on team to ensure appropriate properties are sourced and accurately matched to households to ensure suitable offers are made.
To maintain and develop an excellent knowledge of housing options, homelessness law and practice and related fields including housing benefit and welfare rights.
To control and conduct all activities to issue relevant discharge notifications to end homelessness duties and maintain relevant records.
This role will involve travel to households in temporary accommodation, this will include travel outside of the borough, across London and beyond. Travel can be undertaken by public transport or by car should you have access to one.
Generic Responsibilities
Be a champion for excellent customer service delivery and customer care and contribute to the development and delivery of an integrated service.
Be self-serving with respect to administration, case record keeping and other related duties and utilise IT systems to update and record information required according to guidance and established procedures.
Participate in appraisals, one to ones, objective settings, personal development plans and working group meetings and take a full and active role in service development, including service reviews.
To carry out the duties of the post in accordance with the Data Protection Act, the Health & Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation, as well as Council policies, procedures, Standing Orders and Financial Regulations.

Take responsibility, appropriate to the post, for ensuring compliance with council policies and procedures aimed at promoting and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable children and adults.

To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade, that may be required. These may be varied from time to time to meet the needs of the service.
