Social Worker - Duty & Assessment Team
Location: Town Hall, Customer Service Hub, Victoria Square, Saint Helens, WA10 1HP
Pay Rate: £39 per hour
About the Role:
St Helens Council is seeking a committed and compassionate Social Worker to join our Duty & Assessment Team. This is a highly rewarding role where you will make a real difference in the lives of children and families across the borough. You will be at the forefront of safeguarding, providing critical assessments and support to families in crisis.
You will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team, partner agencies, and the local community to ensure children are safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct timely and thorough assessments for children and families, identifying needs and risks.
- Respond effectively to safeguarding concerns, making informed and confident decisions to protect vulnerable individuals.
- Develop and implement care plans in collaboration with families and other professionals.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date records in line with statutory requirements.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues based on trust and respect.
- Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings and case conferences as required.
- Support and mentor junior colleagues when appropriate.
Person Specification / Requirements:
- Qualified Social Worker (CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent) with current professional registration.
- Previous experience in duty and assessment, child protection, or a similar safeguarding role is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and organisational skills.
- Strong resilience and the ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
