About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Social Worker - Children in Our Care Team to join Bedford Borough Council.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner with strong Looked After Children experience to support children and young people aged 0-18 years within the Children in Our Care service, including separated migrant children.
The successful candidate will play a key role in care planning, permanency planning, safeguarding, and improving education, health, and social outcomes for children and young people in Local Authority care.
You will work closely with partner agencies, carers, and families to ensure children receive the highest standard of support, protection, and advocacy while promoting positive long-term outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of Looked After Children aged 0-18 years
- Support care planning and permanency planning for children in care
- Work with separated migrant children and ensure their safeguarding and support needs are met
- Complete statutory visits, reviews, and assessments within required timescales
- Promote education, health, emotional wellbeing, and positive life outcomes
- Work collaboratively with carers, schools, health professionals, and partner agencies
- Ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities and safeguarding legislation
- Contribute to the Parenting Together approach to improve outcomes for children and young people
- Provide strong advocacy and ensure children's voices remain central to all planning
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years post-qualified experience within a UK Local Authority
- Social Work England registration
- Strong experience working with Looked After Children (LAC) / Children in Care
- Experience within Children's Social Care and statutory safeguarding work
- Experience of care planning and permanency planning
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Strong assessment, safeguarding, and report writing skills
Highly Desirable
- Experience working with Separated Migrant Children
