About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Social Worker - Family Support Services to join Bedford Borough Council.
This role sits within a frontline service supporting families across Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), Public Law Outline (PLO), and care proceedings through to final orders, making it ideal for an experienced practitioner confident in managing complex safeguarding cases from assessment through to permanence planning.
You will work closely with children, young people, and families to provide effective interventions, improve outcomes, and ensure children remain safe through strong partnership working and high-quality statutory practice.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex cases across CIN, CP, PLO, and care proceedings
- Complete high-quality statutory assessments, safeguarding investigations, and risk assessments
- Build strong working relationships with children, young people, and families to ensure their voices are heard
- Plan, implement, and review interventions to improve outcomes and reduce risk
- Attend legal planning meetings, court proceedings, and provide professional recommendations
- Produce high-quality court statements, reports, and case recordings
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and partner agencies to deliver effective multi-agency support
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant case records
- Support practice development within the team through mentoring and modelling good practice
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years post-qualified experience within a UK Local Authority
- Social Work England registration
- Strong experience across CIN, CP, PLO, and care proceedings
- Proven experience of court work and legal planning processes
- Ability to manage complex and high-risk safeguarding cases independently
- Strong report writing, assessment, and analytical skills
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Strong multi-agency working and relationship-based practice experience
