About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Social Worker - Assessment Team to join Bedford Borough Council.

This is an excellent opportunity for a strong frontline practitioner with assessment and safeguarding experience to work within a supportive team managing Child in Need, Child Protection, and court-related work.

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing high-quality assessments, managing safeguarding investigations, attending Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPC), and progressing cases where court intervention is required.

You will be joining a well-supported team offering regular supervision and a collaborative working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete Section 17 Child in Need assessments
  • Undertake Section 47 child protection investigations
  • Attend and contribute to Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPC)
  • Manage safeguarding concerns and risk assessments effectively
  • Prepare high-quality reports and court statements
  • Progress cases through pre-proceedings and court work where required
  • Work closely with children, families, and partner agencies to ensure positive outcomes
  • Maintain accurate and timely case recording in line with statutory requirements
  • Ensure the child's voice remains central to all planning and intervention

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 3+ years post-qualified experience within a UK Local Authority
  • Social Work England registration
  • Strong frontline Children's Social Care experience
  • Proven experience completing Section 17 assessments
  • Proven experience undertaking Section 47 investigations
  • Experience attending ICPC and managing Child Protection processes
  • Court work experience
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Strong safeguarding, assessment, and report writing skills
