About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Advanced Social Work Practitioner to join the Youth Justice Service at Bedford Borough Council.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled practitioner with strong Youth Justice Service (YJS) experience and proven supervisory experience to take on a senior role supporting vulnerable young people and leading practice within the team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing complex youth justice cases, supporting intervention planning, safeguarding young people, and supervising staff to ensure high standards of practice across the service.
This role requires strong working knowledge of Youth Justice legislation, frameworks, and practice standards, alongside the ability to provide leadership, guidance, and professional supervision to team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage complex cases within the Youth Justice Service
- Support young people involved in offending behaviour, prevention, and rehabilitation pathways
- Undertake risk assessments, intervention planning, and safeguarding responsibilities
- Provide supervision, support, and guidance to staff within the team
- Monitor performance and ensure high standards of social work practice
- Work collaboratively with courts, police, education, probation, health, and partner agencies
- Prepare high-quality reports for court proceedings and professional meetings
- Promote positive outcomes and reduce reoffending through effective intervention planning
- Ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities, safeguarding procedures, and youth justice legislation
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years post-qualified experience within a UK Local Authority
- Social Work England registration
- Strong and recent Youth Justice Service (YJS) experience (non-negotiable)
- Proven experience supervising staff within Social Care / YJS
- Strong working knowledge of Youth Justice legislation and frameworks (non-negotiable)
- Experience managing complex and high-risk cases
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Strong report writing, assessment, and multi-agency working skills
