Lancashire County Council is looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Social Worker to join its Kinship Assessment Team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established service committed to achieving the best outcomes for children who are unable to remain in the care of their birth parents.
The successful candidate will play a key role in completing high-quality kinship assessments, supporting connected persons carers, and ensuring children are placed in safe, stable, and nurturing family environments. You will work collaboratively with children, families, foster carers, legal services, and partner agencies to deliver timely assessments and care planning.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake comprehensive Kinship and Connected Persons Assessments in line with statutory guidance and local authority procedures.
Complete high-quality viability, Special Guardianship Order (SGO), and full kinship assessments within agreed timescales.
Assess the suitability of family members and connected persons to care for children who cannot remain with their parents.
Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for court proceedings, fostering panels, and permanency planning.
Develop and review care plans to ensure children achieve positive and stable outcomes.
Build effective working relationships with children, families, carers, and partner agencies.
Attend strategy meetings, case conferences, legal planning meetings, and court where required.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case recordings using the local authority's recording system.
Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant legislation, safeguarding procedures, and best practice.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
Previous experience within a Kinship, Fostering, Connected Persons, or Children's Services team.
Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, fostering regulations, and safeguarding legislation.
Experience completing complex assessments and producing high-quality reports.
Excellent communication, assessment, and analytical skills.
Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise work effectively.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.
