Walsall Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to support their Children's Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional with strong safeguarding knowledge and experience chairing reviews to contribute to positive outcomes for children and young people.

Location: Civic Centre,
Pay Rate: £38.00 per hour (Umbrella)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair statutory reviews for Looked After Children in line with IRO Handbook and statutory guidance
  • Monitor and quality assure care planning to ensure compliance with legislation and best practice
  • Provide effective challenge and escalation where plans do not meet children's needs or timescales slip
  • Ensure the child's voice and lived experience remain central to all planning and decision-making
  • Track progress against care plans and permanence plans
  • Work closely with social workers, team managers and partner agencies to improve outcomes
  • Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality records and review documentation
  • Identify and address safeguarding risks and practice concerns
  • Contribute to service improvement and quality assurance processes
  • Promote stability, permanence and positive outcomes for children and young people

Essential Requirements:

  • Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
  • At least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's services
  • Social Work England Registration
  • Driving license and access to own vehicle
