Trafford - QSW - Emergency Duty Team
Trafford Council is currently seeking an experienced Social Worker to support their Emergency Duty Team.
Location: TALBOT ROAD
Pay Rate: £35.00 per hour (Umbrella)
Notes :
- The shifts in EDT are Mon-Thursday 4:30pm-Midnight then on call from midnight to 8:30am
- Weekends [No more than two a month for any worker] are Saturday 8:30-4:30pm - 4:30pm-Midnight-Midnight on call until 8:30 Sunday. Then repeat of this for Sunday until 8:30am Monday
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a responsive out-of-hours statutory social work service across Children's Services, Adult Social Care and Mental Health.
- Deliver urgent interventions for vulnerable children, families and adults, including safeguarding and crisis situations that cannot wait until the next working day.
- Undertake the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) role, completing Mental Health Act assessments and coordinating lawful decision-making.
- Respond promptly to mental health crises, safeguarding concerns and homelessness emergencies, ensuring safe and proportionate risk management.
- Make independent decisions in high-risk situations, balancing legal duties, professional judgement and least-restrictive practice.
- Work on a rota covering evenings, weekends and bank holidays, ensuring Trafford meets statutory responsibilities 24/7.
- Carry out emergency safeguarding enquiries, including investigating allegations of abuse or neglect and implementing immediate protection plans.
- Arrange emergency placements and support, including foster care, residential care or community-based alternatives.
- Collaborate with police, health professionals, housing and partner agencies to deliver coordinated crisis responses.
- Maintain accurate, timely case recording and documentation in line with legislation, policies and procedures.
- Ensure practice reflects current legislation and guidance, including the Care Act, Children Act, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
- Contribute to a resilient, flexible and high-performing out-of-hours service, supporting colleagues and sharing expertise.
Essential Requirements:
- Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent
- At least 3 years' experience as a social worker within children's services
- Social Work England Registration
- Driving license and access to own vehicle
