Cheshire West and Chester Council is currently seeking a committed, resilient, and experienced Supervising Social Worker to join the Connected People's Team, based at The Portal in Ellesmere Port.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in supporting family and friends carers who are applying to look after children they know, including Special Guardians. The successful candidate will work in a specialist fostering team, undertaking meaningful assessments and providing tailored support to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality social work practice focused on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Undertake detailed connected persons and Special Guardianship assessments, often under court direction
  • Prepare clear, analytical, and timely reports for court and panel presentations
  • Travel for out-of-county assessments (overnight stays may be required)
  • Provide ongoing supervision and support to connected carers, ensuring safe and stable placements
  • Work closely with internal teams, legal services, and multi-agency partners
  • Maintain accurate records in line with council policy and statutory requirements

What We're Looking For:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
  • Strong experience in fostering, kinship, or court-based assessment work
  • Sound knowledge of court processes, permanence planning, and safeguarding procedures
  • Excellent assessment, report writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage a complex caseload and work independently
  • Flexible approach with willingness to travel when required
